We buy our cider vinegars from Aspall. A family business since 1728, Aspall is the oldest family cider business in Britain. The company is now run by the eighth generation of the Chevallier Guild family - brothers Barry and Henry Chevallier Guild.
Barry and Henry both grew up with the business and watched it grow. Due to this they could appreciate that it was the premium quality of the products which differentiated Aspall from other cider producers.
The company has moved with the times and like many 'forward thinking' wine makers the brothers have used the latest modern production equipment only when a marked improvement in quality can be achieved.
All Aspall products are made without compromise. They combine the experience and expertise of production, handed down through the family, with the latest in technological developments.
This ensures all products maintain their consistently superior quality and flavour. There are no concentrates, additives, preservatives in any of the products and every batch is tested and passed by family members before it leaves Aspall.
The family home, Aspall Hall, dates back to 1413 and lies at the centre of the estate, surrounded by well-established organic orchards. The 6th generation of the Chevallier family at Aspall were founding members of the Soil Association in 1946 and the family remains committed to protecting the environment.
Aspall sources fruit from its own 90-acre organic orchards as well as other East Anglia orchards. The company works closely with the region’s apple growers to ensure long-term sustainability.
The history of the business can be traced back to 1728, when Clement Chevallier fermented his first batch of Normandy style Suffolk Cyder. To this day most of our products are still bottled in the original Cyder House, which dates back to this time.
