We believe that we are the only manufacturer in the UK to use only fresh English horseradish root in our Horseradish & Cream without any other 'fillers' such as turnips being added. This is why our product is so strong.
We put a lot of effort into choosing suppliers who grow the best quality ingredients. Our horseradish is grown for us in Norfolk on a LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) accredited farm that has been growing it for 30 years. Norfolk soil is ideal for growing horseradish because it is sandy. This means that the root finds it easier to grow straight down and it makes digging the roots out for harvest much easier.
The 3000 acre farm currently has 8 acres put down to horseradish. After cleaning and peeling this yields about 25 tonnes, most of which is supplied to Tracklements. We use a semi wild variety of horseradish called Broadacre.
Historically our horseradish grower has been asked by other manufacturers to harvest the crop once a year and store the horseradish roots until they are needed. However, as he says “horseradish is fiendish to store” because it loses heat and turns brown very quickly. We prefer to have freshly harvested horseradish all year round so that it is as strong and powerful as possible when we mix it with fresh cream and put it in jars.
